Freedmen Project.

Part of preserving the obituaries of Indian Territory Freedmen is the preservation of the cemetery's in which they are interred. With the neglect and vandalism that can occur to these sacred sights it is urgent we identify and seek protection for these historic sites.

Aside from getting together with other Freedmen descendants, friends and family to preserve these sacred sites, you can contribute the information contained in any obituaries notices; funeral programs and other information that will help us develop an extensive database of information on Indian Territory Freedmen.

You can photograph the headstones of cemeteries in Oklahoma during a visit with family or during reunions and post the information at Find A Grave so others will have access to information that will help them reconnect their family history
