Indian Pioneer Papers

Some of the first hand accounts of Indian Territory Freedmen are preserved in the Indian Pioneer Papers and it is important for researchers to utilize this source for a fuller picture of the Freedmen.

Part of our efforts to educate the public about the history of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Freedmen is through the publication of records that demonstrate the impact of the Freedmen in Indian Territory and later the state of Oklahoma.

Newspaper Archives

The Oklahoma Historical Society houses a large collection of newspaper articles that give insight into the lives of Indian Territory Freedmen, we share some of those with you and an index that was compiled for research purposes.

The need to preserve our ancestors burial sites is an imperative with the Estelusti Foundation. We support the  efforts of all individuals who photograph, clean, and restore these historic sites for future generations.
One of the greatest sources of information about Indian Territory Freedmen, especially Choctaw and Chickasaw is contained in the Congressional Record Serial Set. For serious researchers it is a must read.
