


Some of the first hand accounts of Indian Territory Freedmen are preserved in the Indian Pioneer Papers and it is important for researchers to utilize this source for a fuller picture of the Freedmen.
Part of our efforts to educate the public about the history of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Freedmen is through the publication of records that demonstrate the impact of the Freedmen in Indian Territory and later the state of Oklahoma.
