The Congressional Record "Serial Set" is an important research source for Freedmen of Indian Territory. In part because of the adversarial nature of their relationship the freedmen demonstrated a clear understanding of the political process as they sought relief through the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

The "Serial Set" provides a window into the lives of the freedmen that is not captured in other documents and will benefit the researcher to thoroughly go through these records for a keener insight into how the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw and Creek Freedmen dealt with the issues of citizenship, land allotment, per capita payments and genealogy.

We hope to bring a select group of documents to our readers in the desire they will provide others to research these documents and begin the process of writing more books and articles of the Indian Territory Freedmen.
